NPESR publishes original student research papers and scholarly articles across a wide range of academic disciplines. Before submitting your work, please review the requirements below to ensure your manuscript or article meets our publication requirements.
Research papers and articles have different submission requirements. Please review the appropriate section before submitting.
Research Paper Requirements
Word Count
Research papers should be 1,000–4,000 words, excluding the title page, references, tables, and appendices.
Citations
All research papers must follow APA 7th Edition citation guidelines and include at least six credible sources. Authors are responsible for ensuring all sources are properly cited and referenced.
Originality
All submissions must represent the author’s original work.
Artificial intelligence (AI) tools may be used for grammar checking, proofreading, or brainstorming. However:
- AI may not be listed as an author.
- The manuscript must reflect the author’s own research and writing.
- Any significant AI assistance should be disclosed during submission.
Plagiarism or undisclosed AI-generated content may result in rejection.
Figures, Tables, and Media
Figures, tables, photographs, and other media are optional.
If included, all visual materials must:
- Include a descriptive caption.
- Credit the original source if not created by the author.
- Be copyright-compliant or used with appropriate permission.
Writing Style
Research papers should be written for a general, educated audience using clear, organized, and professional academic writing. Technical language is acceptable when appropriate but should be explained whenever possible.
Submission
All research papers must be submitted through the NPESR Publication Submission Form. Authors should monitor the email address provided during submission, as editors may contact them regarding revisions, questions, or publication decisions.
Scholarly Article Requirements
Word Count
Articles do not have a strict word limit. However, a length of 400–1,500 words is recommended.
Citations
Articles should follow APA 7th Edition citation guidelines when citing outside information.
Formal academic sources are not required unless the article includes factual claims, statistics, research findings, or information obtained from external sources.
Originality
All articles must be the author’s original work.
AI may be used for grammar checking or brainstorming but may not be listed as an author. Any substantial AI assistance should be disclosed when submitting your manuscript.
Figures, Tables, and Media
Visual materials are optional.
If included, all figures and media must contain captions, appropriate source attribution, and comply with applicable copyright requirements.
Writing Style
Articles should be informative, engaging, and written for a general, educated audience. Clear organization, accurate information, and concise writing are encouraged.

All articles must be submitted through the NPESR Publication Submission Form.
Anonymous article submissions are permitted. If submitting anonymously, enter “N/A” for any name-related fields within the submission form.
